Could there possibly be such a thing as a boring conversation with cigar-smoker Kinky Friedman? I think not. The man who once told President Bill Clinton to think of smoking Cuban cigars as “burning their crops” sat with me over the weekend to talk (about his) cigars, writing and whether the BP oil spill could be cleaned up with a straw and an Obama-esque “can do” attitude. Of course, he was nothing short of hilarious.

Here’s a tip from Kinky to all you writers out there: never, ever let yourself become happy.
