Senators in Pennsylvania voted against Governor Ed Rendell’s proposal to levy a 30% tax on cigars and Tobacco Products. This was governor Rendell’s second attempt at proposing a first-ever tax on cigars for the state. Pennsylvania is one of only two states that does not tax cigars, with (thankfully) Florida being the other.
This important and much needed victory came less than 24 hours after the victory in Springfield, Missouri where a proposed smoking ban was defeated due to the overwhelming response of local business owners, members of the CRA and the cigar community.
The CRA took some time to thank Pennsylvania’s senators, leadership and all the CRA members who took time to contact Governor Rendell as well as other members of the Commonwealth’s leadership in expressing their opposition to levying any tax on cigars.
