The La Aurora 1495 series of cigars pays tribute to the city of Santiago de los Caballeros and is Made from six different types of tobacco. This cigar has an Ecuadoran Sumatra Sun Grown wrapper, a Dominican Corojo Binder and a mix of Dominican piloto cubano, Nicaraguan, Peruvian and Dominican Ligero filler. I’m smoking my third one while I write this and have about 2 inches of tight, white clean ash with a razor sharp burn.)
Construction: This cigar is firmly packed without any soft spots. The Ecuadoran Sumatra sun grown wrapper features moderate veins and beautiful color. The band itself is very attractive sporting the La Aurora colors, lion head logo and it easily comes off without damaging the wrapper. I chose to use a punch to cut this cigar. The pre-lit draw was very easy and comfortable which is why I would highly suggest using a punch as well.
Burn: The smoking time I had on this was an average of 70 minutes or so. The draw was completely perfect and there was a razor sharp and very clean burn from toast until completion. The ash was tight and white though out the entire time. It produced a lot of thick white smoke with a spicy fragrance that towards the end of the second third became an earthy fragrance with a hint of spice.
Tasting Notes: With corojo in both binder and filler this little cigar comes with some serious power. Pre-light, you can taste and smell spice and earth. The first third of this complex smoke is full of spice yet by the second third it becomes earthy with a hint of coffee and the subtle lingering of spice. on the back end of the second third you can taste nutmeg, Cinnamon and cedar really accenting the earthiness of this cigar. I chose to smoke these after meals and with some coffee, occasionally clearing my palette with some Pelligrino sparkling water just so I knew what I was tasting was the cigar itself. Although this is a medium to full body cigar it leans more towards the full body side due to its tremendous flavor and complexity.
Overall: This is a great smoke, where i was able to sit back and relax. It kept my interest but did not distract me one bit as I was still able to conversate and enjoy myself completely. I would also like to mention that this cigar never became harsh as I smoked it well into the last third. Well worth every penny.
