You’d think the man man who’s family once owned the H. Upmann Factory in Havana, Cuba would have gotten sick of cigars. But Benjamin “Benji” Menendez is just getting started. The 74-year-old cigar maker saw his family’s company take by Castro and now runs General Cigar, Co. making some of the finest cigars in the world.

CA sat down with Menendez who noted, with no trace of irony, that he essentially owns more tobacco than anyone in the world.

Q: You have among the biggest stocks in the cigar business.
A: We have more tobacco than anybody on this earth. And I don’t leave anybody out.
